Can hypnotherapy make me want to quit smoking?
No, hypnotherapy only works with people who are motivated to quit and want to quit at this time. Hypnotherapy cannot make you want to quit if you would prefer to continue smoking.
Does it matter how long I have been smoking? Obviously, the longer you have been smoking, the more smoking is part of your social life and your identity but this will not prevent you quitting if your motivation is there.
How does hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy supports the conscious decisions you make regarding changes in your life by feeding supporting messages to your subconscious. The hypnotic state feels like when you are just about to fall asleep and you are fully aware of what is being said to you and can come out of your state at any time you choose to. Examples of hypnosis where someone has full control over you are simply not true.
Why is it hard to quit smoking?
It can be hard to quit smoking until you gain an understanding of how the mind and body work together. The mind has 2 spheres: the conscious (logical mind) wants you to quit. Yet the subconscious (feeling body) doesn’t not let you quit. When the two minds are in conflict, the subconscious always wins. No amount of logic, reason or willpower can battle a smoking habit. The issues lie deeper. Hypnosis to quit smoking can enable you to gain this greater deeper understanding and lead you towards a unique and more successful outcome.
Why Hypnosis to Stop Smoking?
Habits and behaviours are located in our subconscious mind. This is the reason why we must access this part of your mind to create positive, long-lasting changes. This part of your brain runs on automatic. Whenever you are faced with a new situation, your mind, faster than the blink of an eye, goes to this same place to find information (negative and positive behavioural patterns) on how you have reacted to this same or similar situation in the past. Your mind keeps pulling up those same smoking patterns, over and over. Since your brain is like a super-computer, we must remove the smoking program and replace it with a smoke-free program.
Hypnosis uses the laws of the mind to create the changes you want so that you don’t have to suffer anymore to achieve your goals. That’s because the subconscious mind is much more powerful than the conscious. It is the source of your real power — the very core of who you are resides here. In fact, it is estimated that about 88 percent of the mind resides in this area, which is why hypnosis is so powerful and effective.
Hypnosis helps you to stop smoking without fear! Not only do you stop smoking, but you are given the tools to:
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a trance state of deep relaxation and heightened imagination. It is a normal state that most people experience on a regular basis, such as when daydreaming or when “losing yourself” in a book or movie. You are fully conscious, but you tune out most of the stimuli around you, giving you the ability to focus on the problem at hand to the near exclusion of any other thought.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes, hypnosis is completely safe! It’s gentle and natural to be in a hypnotic trance—you go in and out of trance state by yourself many times a day, like when you first wake up or when you’re about to go to sleep. As your hypnotherapist, I work with you to decide what suggestions I need to introduce in order to help you succeed with your goals. And no one can leave a suggestion that the person in hypnosis is not in agreement with. You’re a part of the hypnosis and therapy—it’s not being “done to you.” Hypnosis is a dance between the therapist and the client—we’re helping your mind and heart become free and light together. Nothing could be safer, or more freeing!
What does it feel like to be in a hypnotic state?
A hypnotic state is similar to a meditative state, where you have a strong internal focus and are very relaxed yet remain in complete control. You may find yourself “lost in your thoughts” in a serene way, as in a peaceful daydream. Despite the popular portrayal of hypnosis, it is not like being asleep because you are aware of everything around you and can choose to open your eyes at any time. Most people, however, choose not to interrupt the state as they find the experience enjoyable.
Is there anyone who can’t be helped by hypnosis?
Absolutely! A person who is not ready to change cannot be helped by hypnosis—remember, I can’t make your subconscious do anything you don’t already want to do. A person who isn’t ready to make change won’t even be calling me. Anyone who is willing to try hypnosis—no matter how nervous or sceptical—can and will reap its amazing benefits. Anyone ready for change—everyone who’s had enough of their old patterns and beliefs, anyone ready to make changes, even if they can’t yet see what those changes will be—will see huge success!

MYTHS and the REALITY

Myth: When you’re in the hypnotic state, THE HYPNOTHERAPIST HAS COMPLETE CONTROL OVER YOU.
Reality: A certified hypnotherapist’s treatment is only as strong as the client’s allowability. Think of it like this: hypnosis does for the mind what massage do for the body. When you are enjoying lying on the masseur’s table, you are vulnerable and trust the masseur to treat your body according to your wishes. If at any point, he hurt you or did something inappropriate, you would sit bolt upright, would you not? We call this “abreaction.” If a hypnotherapist gave you an undesirable suggestion, you would immediately come out of the state. (This is why it is wise to choose a state Certified Hypnotherapist.) Essentially, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. A knowledgeable hypnotherapist merely guides or facilitates the process for you.
Myth: When you’re in hypnosis, YOU GIVE UP YOUR FREE WILL.
Reality: A client cannot give up his free will in hypnosis any more than he can give up his free will when he is asleep. Actually, a client uses his/her free will to go into hypnosis, which is simply a heightened state of concentration and focus on something most of us experience quite often anyway. In hypnotherapy, we isolate an area of a client’s life that he/she wants to change, where he/she has not been able to change on his/her own. So essentially, you gain self-control. When one has not been able to quit smoking on his own and quits smoking with the aid of hypnotherapy, that is gaining enormous self-control and personal power!
Myth: You can be put UNDER HYPNOSIS AGAINST YOUR WISHES.
Reality: Can you go to sleep against your wishes? Or have a massage against your wishes? Of course NO. Your subconscious mind’s main function is to protect you. It protects you even if you are asleep. It works 24/7/365. You are breathing automatically, you have an automatic alarm system built in your mind.
Myth: Under hypnosis, YOU LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS AND HAVE AMNESIA.
Reality: Certainly there is a small percentage of people who go so deep into trance that they do experience spontaneous amnesia. However, the vast majority remember everything the therapist says while they are in the state. Sometimes there is a delayed reaction…in other words, it may “hit” the client a day later. That is the real beauty of hypnosis: no matter how great you feel when you leave the office after a session, it is in the distillation process that occurs within the subconscious/psyche that one feels the real power. In other words, we “plant seeds,” and they begin to sprout and grow after treatment.
